Brewerkz microbrewery and restaurant is THE place for a beer in Singapore, in my opinion!A number of beers are brewed on site, including the award winning India Pale Ale (which won the World Beer Cup Gold Medal in the English style beer category in 2004).

Eight beers are available on draught (wheat ale, golden ale, Czech-style pilsner, Chinese rice beer, India Pale Ale, Brown Ale, Darkside Ale and stout).

Belgian beers (7-9%) are available in bottles and Brewberriez fruit beers are also available.

Prices vary according to the time of day. The happiest Happy Hour is between noon and 3pm when a pint of draught beer costs just S$3 (1.10 GBP / 1.60 Euros). Between 3pm and 6pm, a pint will cost you S$6, between 6pm and 9pm it will cost you S$9 and between 9pm and closing time it will cost you S$12.

Alternatively, jugs of beer (holding between 3 and 4 pints) are available. Between 3pm and 6pm, these cost S$15 (I believe they cost just S$12 between noon and 3pm) and S$22+ after 6pm.

Another popular choice is the "seven set sampler" - a chance to try, in small glasses, seven different draught beers.

During my stay in the city, I tried the entire selection of draught beers with the exception of stout which was unavailable at the time. My preferred pint was the wheat ale - a light beer, similar in taste to Hoegaarden - highly recommended!

There are numerous tables outside under a canopy, while the air-conditioned interior has large screen TVs showing live sports (including live English Premiership football on ESPN).An extensive food menu (generally of an American nature - with chicken wings, steaks etc) is available, but I found the food to be expensive so never tried it. No dress code - feel free to turn up in shorts, T-shirt and flip-flops!Update: I revisited Brewerkz in late March 2006 during a short stopover in the city and the beer menu had changed. The wheat ale (which I was really looking forward to drinking!) and a couple of the other draught beers had been replaced by 3 different brews, the closest of which to wheat ale was the "kolsch ale". It seems that different beers are brewed on a rotation basis.

This was our dinner last Sunday at the Soup Restaurant, Paragon. It has been some time since we last ate here.

The Samsui Ginger Chicken that almost everyone orders. The first dish that came out, and almost immediately after our orders! The big portion of it, now served double deck.

This was a new dish that they advertise outside. Fish from the stomach area stir fry with chilli. It's quite tasty

Regulars dress down and are more concerned with getting the drinks in than with posing, which is fine by us. We like the terrace seating area of the bar, where you can take your drink on a hot night and soak up the atmosphere under the stars. No need to get there too early either - Happy Hours lasts from opening time until 9pm.

So named because its ceiling is the original ceiling of the General Post Office, although you'll be glad to hear you don't sip your Singapore Sling on a bunch of mail bags. We're in the stylish Fullerton Singapore and it's a feast for the senses, with modish décor, fine lines, and comfy couches and chairs. Uniformed bar staff serve up a wide selection of classic and fruity cocktails in the gleaming air-conditioned space, and you have two areas to sip them in. There's the Cocktail Bar where you'll like the aforementioned Sling but should go for oysters and Dom Perignon; and the trendy Music Room where they play everything from swing to jazz to contemporary new world.

Exclusive industrial-style club located in an old warehouse on Jiak Kim. It's popular with an alternative in-crowd but we're recommending it for the Member's Bar on the second level, where only card carrying party regulars are allowed access. Big-name foreign DJs do duties most nights on other levels and queues are longer than a communist era bread line, so make sure you take out that membership. The bar staff are slick, and generous with their shots - which makes up for the attitude of the no-nonsense bouncers on the doors.

It's convenient to go bar- and club-hopping in Singapore, as the golden triangle of nightspots -- Zouk - Mohammed Sultan - Boat Quay -- are all a short taxi hop from each other. Be warned, on Friday and Saturday nights the clubbing herd comes out in full force and you may have to call for a taxi to avoid waiting in queue.

Drinks - including beer -- are fairly expensive in Singapore. Most bars have happy hours, where drinks are at a sharp discount or standard drinks like vodka tonic are on one-for-one offer. Wednesday night is Ladies Night at many bars, while some bars and clubs mark out one night of the week with a special dance or music theme. The bars serve finger food, some offer the usual pub grub like fish and chips or spring rolls, while the trendier ones have sushi or teppanyaki on their menus.

If you're hungry for a real meal after all that clubbing, there's usually an Indian roti prata stall, hawker centre or coffee shop open nearby. The Newton Circus hawker centre is alive all night, while many hotels have coffee houses that welcome the tired and hungry until the wee hours of the morning.

But that’s not the sort of place this is, despite appearances. Rather, at 10,000 sq ft, it’s touted as Singapore’s largest international live music venue. This behemoth will focus on international acts from the United States, Britain and Australia on its two-month rotating playbill; the energetic Toni James and her eight-piece band from the UK recently ended their residency in July. This month, the club will host local favourites Krueger and Enigma. The club’s alluring daily bottle promotions – such as one-for-one deals on Chivas, Macallan and Absolut Blue – mean you’ll spot big-spender types (albeit those looking for a bargain).

Conveniently located within The Cannery at Clarke Quay, this restaurant is classy without compromising credibility in terms of food quality. Possessing a certain air of mystery, Barfly is definitely a place to see and be seen. With several live musical performances lined up over the next couple of months, Barfly is soon to be a familiar name amongst discerning nightlife aficionados and novices alike.

The Vibe
Goth is a running theme at Barfly. Decorated in dark pink, purple and red hues, the ambience at this establishment is nothing short of spectacular. Large crystal chandeliers loom overhead, and heavy wooden furniture adds to the somewhat royal feel projected by restaurant. An attention-grabbing winged statue stands proudly in the middle of the room, and in keeping with the sophistication of the place, the menus are leather clad and oh-so-chic.

The Food
In terms of selection, Barfly's menu is expansive. Relatively more up market in terms of pricing, the food at Barfly is aesthetically-pleasing. Ladies will be glad to know that there is a regular Thursday night dinner promotion as well as special deals on drinks.
For a twist on the ever-popular Cuban cocktail, try the Lychee or Strawberry Mojito ($13). Both are sweet but potent, with fresh fruit accompanying each colourful beverage.

One of marketing manager Jason Wong's personal favourites, the Torch Shiro Maguro ($14) is a thrill for the tastebuds. Comprising white tuna tataki with wakame and onion relish, this slightly salty gastronomical gem is extremely fresh. Lightly seared on the outside and delightfully soft on the inside, this dish is truly exquisite.

The Barfly Seafood Mezze ($22) is ideal for seafood lovers. Black cod, king scallops, soft shell crab and Kataifi prawn make up this platter, a complementary combination of crustaceans and fish that is simply mouth-watering. Crispy yet tender, the crab almost melts in your mouth, while the scallops have a Mediterranean tinge to them owing to the vegetable salsa they are served with. For more on seafood, sample Barfly's Rock Lobster Soup ($15), consisting of a creamy bowl of goodness with a trace of vintage cognac. Almost milky in texture, this full-bodied soup contains succulent bits of lobster, and will doubtlessly leave you wanting more.

For something more substantial, the Crackling Suckling Pig ($36) is quite appetizing. Slow cooked and served with lemon puree, the pork is flavourful with a crisp outer layer and should sit well with most palates. Alternatively, the Grilled Succulent Lamb ($45) is deliciously juicy and tender but could be served slightly warmer. Also, the apple mint sauce is barely tasted. However, the well-roasted potatoes accompanying the char grilled lamb are tasty and manage to distract from the lack of mint sauce.

The Sour Cherry Chocolate Pudding ($14) takes the cake, if you will. Topped with vanilla ice-cream, the decadent dessert is served warm and sits atop a bed of berries. Sinfully self-indulgent and appropriately portioned, the pudding is immensely satisfying and a perfect ending to a satisfying meal.

Chilli Crab Singapore

The Chilli Crab, we feel, is one of the most interesting dishes one can have in Singapore. The spicy gravy really brings out the flavour of the sweet crab meat (I know there are those who would only have their crabs steamed). We paid for 1.1kg crab, and we really didn't expect it to be THAT huge. The picture probably doesn't really show it, but half of that was all we had for dinner. The girlfriend ate the other half.

Clarke Quay is a historical riverside quay in Singapore, located upstream from the mouth of the Singapore River and Boat Quay. It was the centre of commercial enterprise in the late 19th century. The Vibe
The restaurant is bright and lively, bustling with people busying themselves with the huge spread before them while delicious smells waft throughout the premises. The interior's bold colours, plush furniture upholstery, grand high back leather chairs and dazzling one-of-a-kind designer cutleries wow the crowd with its daring design.
The entire restaurant is sectioned into four differently themed ‘rooms', the living room; the area with the best view of the interior, the state rooms; which offers guests a private dining experience, the verandah and the terrace. Every section boasts vastly different yet cohesive designs.

The Food

Stroll on down to the salad bar and conjure up a salad of your liking, or if you prefer, indulge in the exotic cold salads, such as the caper berry or grilled zucchini dressed with herb oil and sultanas already pre-made for your convenience.

Another one of the restaurant's highlights; the rotisserie, is both a feast for the eyes and the palate. Those in the mood for some juicy meat will rejoice; try out some duck if you're into game meat or the lamb tagine for a taste of faraway Morocco . The simple combination which is the noisette of beef with butternut squash works well in that it effectively bring out the mild sweetness of the beef. Save some space for dessert, as Carousel's dessert chef from the Netherlands aims to entice and thrill with his culinary concoctions. With an enormous assortment of his divine creations spread across three dessert sections, he covers good old British favourites such as bread and butter pudding or berry crumble. The last dessert counter serves a collection of mousses, puddings and cakes.

Your meal around the world comes at only $33.50 for lunch on weekdays and $35++ on the weekends, dinner at $42 and $49 respectively. High tea goes at $23.50 on weekdays and $28.50 on the weekends while the rate for supper is at $19.50.
